Knowledge lives in people.
The Library of Community Knowledge is a travelling, community artwork and social archive that explores how lived experience is carried, exchanged, and cared for within everyday neighbourhood life.
The library shares objects and other forms of knowledge contributed by residents of Afrikaanderwijk and Bloemhof, Rotterdam.
Together with local knowledge holders and Stichting Bruggen Slaan, fabric bags were created that carry stories, memories, and other forms of knowing: soft archives shaped by what people wish to share with one another. Each bag became a unique a vessel for memory, holding traces of lived experience.
The Library of Community Knowledge treats the neighbourhood itself as a living library.
Every resident holds forms of knowledge that deserve visibility. The project creates space for these forms of knowing to circulate, bringing people into connection through exchange and encounter.
What would your bag hold?
